Overview
The U.S. National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Research Infrastructure Workshop (RIW) is an annual event that brings together the NSF’s Research Infrastructure (RI) community. This workshop serves as a crucial platform for continuous learning, information sharing, and collaboration among participants. This case study examines our role in the NSF RIW, highlighting our year-over-year contributions to the event’s planning and execution.
Approach
The Research Infrastructure Workshop was held from March 26-29, in Tucson, Arizona. The workshop was a collaborative forum designed to:
- Facilitate the exchange of best practices, common challenges, experiences, and lessons learned.
- Discuss new initiatives and gather community input.
- Demonstrate project management, operations, and business-related tools and techniques.
- Expand the community of practice and promote collaboration across disciplines and organizations.
Results
The U.S. National Science Foundation Research Infrastructure Workshop included a diverse agenda with topics relevant to both Major Facilities and Mid-scale RI projects, such as Facility Management, Project Management, Operations Management, and more.
- 15% increase in in-person attendees – 413 total hybrid attendees
- 121 New users added to the COI portal
- Offered 8 education tracks – the most thus far
- 51 attendees presented during Poster Sessions
- 100% of in-person attendees surveyed would recommend RIW to a colleague
